Are You an Encourager? The Virginia State Legislature Needs You!

By | Virginia | No Comments

Dear CWA Friends,

We are excited to launch our 2022 Encourage-A-Legislator (EAL) program! For those who have not participated in our EAL program in the past, it focuses solely on prayer and encouragement for our state legislators. The EAL program is one of Concerned Women for America (CWA) of Virginia’s most valued programs. Though CWA members and friends regularly contact their legislators and pray concerning our core issues, the EAL program is designed to pray for and encourage the legislators with no mention of legislation or policy. Regardless of whether legislators are conservative, liberal, Republican, Democrat, Independent, Christian, or non-Christian, they need both our prayer and encouragement.

For more information about the EAL program click here. Please print and distribute to others who might want to participate in our program.

If you would like to participate, please contact CWA of Virginia’s EAL Coordinator, Janet Stasulli. She can be contacted at [email protected]. Provide your name, mailing address, phone number, and specify whether you would like to adopt one or two legislators.

Sincerely,
Teresa Pregnall
State Director

Praying for the Body of Christ in Afghanistan

By | International, LBB, Legal, News and Events | No Comments

I want to appeal to you, as the news cycle conveniently shifts from crisis to crisis, sparing bad actors of proper accountability, to remember our brothers and sisters trapped in Afghanistan under the terrible, evil rulership of the Taliban.

You might have heard that Glenn Beck, through his Nazarene Fund, was helping to get thousands of Christians out of the country very successfully. Until the U.S. Government got wind of it, that is. Here is what he told Tucker Carlson in a recent interview:

“The State Department has blocked us every step of the way. The State Department and the White House have been the biggest problem.  Everyone else, everyone else, has been working together, putting aside differences, and trying to get these people to safety.  The State Department and the White House have blocked us every single step of the way. In fact, an ambassador was called in Macedonia last night and told not to accept any of these people, as we were trying to get them off the tarmac here to keep the airport flowing and getting these Christians out.  We haven’t really been able to move anybody for about twelve hours. Our mission is now changing greatly. We have to send people into even greater danger to try to smuggle these Christians out, who are marked not just for death, but to be set on fire alive because they’re converted Christians.”

This is the reality for Christians in Afghanistan. And our government, as you heard, shows no sympathy to them as a group. We must pray. We cannot forget that we are one body in our Lord, Jesus Christ. When they suffer, we suffer…

Penny Nance Defends Texas Abortion Bill to Fox News

By | Media, News and Events | No Comments

Concerned Women for America’s CEO and President, Penny Nance, was quoted in Fox News today defending Texas’ heartbeat bill. “The dramatic, angry, and partisan coverage of Texas’ new heartbeat law is very telling and unfortunately, not at all surprising,” she said. “This law was properly debated and passed with bi-partisan support by democratically elected lawmakers in the state of Texas. Texans want this law.”

“Leftists and media outlets are angered by the Supreme Court’s refusal to play interference and act as judicial activists. We are very thankful to have a Supreme Court that understands its role and refuses to be manipulated by charged emotional public pressure.”

Abortion and Race in America

By | Media, News and Events | No Comments

After an anchor on a major news network referred to all pro-lifers as “racist” and “handmaidens,” it lit a fire under those within the movement to set the record straight and to examine how race fits into the issue of abortion in America. Concerned Women for America’s CEO and President, Penny Nance, is joined by Christina Bennett, an African American leader within the pro-life movement, who breaks this down, asks the tough questions, and shares the story of her mother’s divine intervention that changed her life forever.

Conservative Women Celebrate Saving Babies in Texas

Washington, D.C. – Penny Nance, CEO and President of Concerned Women for America (CWA), the largest public policy organization for women in the nation, had this to say on the news of the United States Supreme Court’s denial of attempts to stop the Texas Heartbeat Law:

“It is telling to see the abortion industry’s angry reaction to the Supreme Court’s refusal to play interference between the Left’s radical ideas and the American people. Texas’ heartbeat law was properly debated and passed with bi-partisan support. Texas women want this law.

“CWA of Texas worked hard to see it passed. The other side had ample opportunity to convince the public of their views. But they lost. It is as simple as that.

“Now, as usual, they seek for judicial activists to do for them what they couldn’t do through the proper legislative process. Since 1973 the militant left has used the courts to impose their fringe views of abortion at any time, for any reason, any number, and all paid for by the taxpayers of America. Those days are over. We are thankful for a Supreme Court that knows its role and refuses to be manipulated in this way, letting the democratic process continue instead.

“Bottom line, babies are being saved in Texas today. We know that makes for a rainy day for the Left, but most Americans rejoice. That’s the headline.”

A Prayer for Afghanistan

By | LBB, News and Events, Prayer | No Comments

LORD,

Words fail to express the sorrow
Of the Body of Christ here in America
As we consider the fate
Of our brothers and sisters in Afghanistan.

The images are just heartbreaking.
The stories, agonizing.
We grieve for those in such perilous situations
Wondering what awaits their families.

Help! Lord.
We humbly ask for Your guidance
For our leaders and those with the
Power and means to come to their aid.

We consider, and plead especially,
For the women and children who are
Specifically targeted by the evil rule
Of the Taliban. Rise against it, Lord.

Stretch out Your mighty hand
And show Your awesome power
For all the world to see that
You are God!

Frustrate the enemy’s plans at every turn.
Let those uncommitted to freedom and liberty
Among our leaders in Washington be exposed,
Let them be removed from their posts.

Let the righteous rule again
That the people may rejoice,
As Your Word says, Lord.
And strengthen the knees of Your Church.

Give us faith to engage the spiritual fight
We so often overlook.
Give us spiritual eyes and help us
To pray fervently in the power of the Spirit.

Hear the plight of those who,
In their distress, cry out to You.
Deliver them and protect them.
Let Your wisdom increase in Afghanistan.

May the threat of persecution
Be a catalyst for Your Word to flourish,
For Your church to do as our Lord and Savior did,
To give our very lives for love.

Teach us to love, Father.
Teach us to have compassion—
To be moved as Jesus when He saw the crowds,
And give us the faith to multiply the loaves and the fish.

For what is impossible with men,
It is possible with God.
We know this to be true, Lord,
And we declare it anew.

We believe.
We believe in You, our Father.
We believe in Your Son, Jesus, in whose name we pray.
We believe in Your Holy Spirit, through whom we pray.

Amen.

Concerned Women for America Coordinates Prayer Vigil at White House Condemning Abandonment of Americans, Women, and Children in Afghanistan

Washington, D.C. – The nation’s largest public policy women’s organization, Concerned Women for America, will gather a coalition of faithful female leaders on Wednesday, August 25, 2021, outside of the White House in Washington, D.C., to pray for the ongoing human rights crisis unfolding in Afghanistan.

WHO: Speakers include:

  • Penny Nance, Concerned Women for America CEO and President
  • Charlotte Ponticelli, Former Senior Coordinator for International Women’s Issues at the U.S. Department of State, Member of U.S. Afghan Women’s Council and American Council on Women, Peace, and Security.
  • Mercedes Schlapp, American Conservative Union Foundation Senior Fellow
  • Mariam Ibrahim, Sudanese Religious Freedom Activist, arrested and sentenced to death for her Christian faith
  • Andrea Bottner, former U.S. Department of State Director for the Office of International Women’s Issues and Senior Advisor, Independent Women’s Forum
  • Alyssa Farah, visiting fellow with Independent Women’s Forum & former White House Communications Director and United States Department of Defense Press Secretary
  • Tina Whittington, Executive Vice President, Students for Life
  • Jenna Ellis, Host, Just The Truth at Real America’s Voice News

WHAT: Prayer Vigil for Stranded Americans and Afghani Women and Children

WHERE: Lafayette Square in front of the White House

WHEN: Wednesday, August 25, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. EST

WHY: To lift up the innocent in prayer and demand the White House protect the innocent. The focus of the prayer vigil/press conference will be to demand the rescue and protection of Americans stuck in Afghanistan and safety for Afghan women and children,  particularly dependents of our allies. Concerned Women for America CEO and President, Penny Nance provided the following statement:

“The footage and testimonials out of Afghanistan are horrific. Americans are stuck and women and children are in crisis. Interpreters who worked with us are being tortured to death, Afghani women are pleading for rescue from the Taliban, burning anything that shows their accomplishments, and handing their babies over razor wire to British soldiers out of despair. Women and young girls in Afghanistan will now be forced into a life of oppression. They will face brutal violations of their most fundamental rights and face death, sex slavery, and other grim situations at the hand of the Taliban. Leaving those who worked alongside U.S. troops for the last 20 years behind to face life under the Taliban is surely a death sentence. We must find a humanitarian solution that ensures the safety of women and children while ensuring that America is kept safe. We are witnessing the worst crisis and failure of foreign policy leadership in recent history. Concerned Women for America has a long history of working to protect women and children with a deep focus on religious freedom, educational opportunities, true empowerment and opportunities, and a commitment to ending sexual exploitation. We will not look away. The world is watching, and we will be praying for a miracle to save lives. The Biden Administration’s abrupt departure strategy will impact America’s reputation and safety for generations to come.

Media are invited to attend and asked to RSVP to Jacklyn Washington at [email protected] A mult. box will be made available for approved media personnel.

Biden’s Foreign Policy Plans: Humanitarian Crisis

By | National Sovereignty, News and Events | No Comments

Waking up this morning felt like being trapped in a nightmare or a scene straight out of a Hollywood film. Just short of 20 years after the terror attacks of 9/11, the Taliban, in a matter of days, has taken over the country of Afghanistan.

Videos have emerged showing people jumping on the side of planes taxing down the runway just for the hope of escaping the impending rule of the Taliban.

The Taliban was created in 1994 by Mulla Mohammad Omar gathering a group of students educated in traditional schools. The international community has labeled the Taliban a terrorist group due to their extreme enforcement and misinterpretation of the Islamic religious law.

In 1996, the Taliban ruled Afghanistan. During this time, women were prevented from attending schools or working outside their homes (except those working in healthcare), and it was required to wear a burka to cover a woman’s body and face. Any attempt to break their laws was punished publicly with lashing or by death.

After September 11, the U.S. with the support of the international community, mainly England and Canada, deployed military and civilian personnel to extinguish the disruptive Taliban threat and build up the government of Afghanistan.  In later years, the  allies reached a point where they felt that the Taliban had been neutralized and the Afghan army had been strengthened to the point that the allies could move into an advisory position doing training for both military and civilian personnel. Since then, U.S. troops have stayed in Afghanistan to help local allies fight back against the Taliban regime that has not given up on their efforts to take back the power.

Former President Trump negotiated a deal reaching an agreement with the Taliban, setting some conditions to withdraw U.S. troops, among those to respect the lives of the American people and refrain from committing any terrorist attacks.

Instead of following through with this plan, President Biden rushed to undo everything that his predecessor did, bringing him to a disastrous decision: withdraw troops without making sure to agree to some conditions. His decision has left behind those who risked their lives fighting the Taliban regime alongside the U.S.  Now, our Afghani allies left behind face a grim future – if any future at all.

Among those people, we also find women and girls who, most of the time are forgotten. Women and girls will return to a regime of oppression. They will face brutal violations of their most fundamental rights, such as having access to education, the opportunity to work, the freedom to express their views.

The world is in shock after the videos circulating where men risk their lives to escape the upcoming situation under the Taliban regime. Women and girls do not have that opportunity. They are forbidden to be out.

During this looming humanitarian crisis, CWA will keep alive the voices of those women, girls, and children who are among the most vulnerable.  Voices who are screaming to the world for help, facing death, sex slavery, and other situations will leave a mark in their lives for the rest of their lives.

Federal Judge Rules Against Pro-Life Laws

By | Media, News and Events, Sanctity of Life | No Comments

Concerned Women for America‘s CEO and President, Penny Nance, joined CBN News to respond to a recent ruling by a federal judge in Indiana striking down some of the state’s pro-life laws. “She [the judge] may have been appointed by President Reagan, but she is not a constitutionalist,” Nance said. “She has set back the state of Indiana and their legal restrictions on abortion.”

After Targeting Black Lives for Decades, Abortion Movement Smears Pro-Life Women as Racist

By | CEO, News and Events | No Comments

A recent MSNBC panel of women smeared pro-life women as being racists and seeing black women as human “incubators.” Concerned Women for America’s CEO and President, Penny Nance, stepped in to correct the record.

From the article: “The billion-dollar abortion industry profits from the death of minority babies, whereas the pro-life movement works to support life and liberty for them.” Read her full piece here.

The Assault on Hyde and Family: FY 2022 House Appropriations Update

By | Hyde Amendment, Legislative Updates, News and Events, Sanctity of Life | No Comments

Last week, the Democrat House Majority rammed through a federal budget stripped of all longstanding pro-life protections, including the Hyde Amendment. This tone-deaf political ploy effectively wrote a blank check to the abortion industry at home and abroad, leaving American taxpayers with the tab. Since the poisonous package is likely unpalatable in the Senate, the upper chamber is left to its own devices to avert a fiscal cliff and government shutdown.

H.R. 4502, a seven-bill package for FY 2022 appropriations, included the Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education Appropriations (LHHS) Act and Financial Services and General Government Appropriations (FSGG) Act. LHHS blatantly excluded Hyde, a prohibition on taxpayer funding of elective abortion through Medicaid and Medicare disability, and the Weldon Amendment, a conscience protection prohibiting government discrimination against healthcare entities that refuse to provide or pay for abortions. To justify the Democrats’ position, House Appropriations Chairwoman Rosa DeLauro (D-Connecticut) condemned the last 45 years of bipartisan agreement to include Hyde as “a mistake.” FSGG repealed other members of the family of protections:  the Dornan Amendment, a ban on the use of local and federal funds for abortion services in Washington, D.C., and the Smith Amendment, a ban on funding for elective abortions through the Federal Employee Health Benefits (FEHB) program.

During House floor debate, Rep. Tom Cole (R-Oklahoma) offered a motion to recommit (MTR) H.R. 4502 that would have restored the Hyde, Weldon, Dornan, and Smith Amendments—all of which were removed from the underlying bill in committee. The measure failed by a vote of 208-217. You may view the MTR roll call here to see if your member stood strong for life. H.R. 4502 eventually passed the House on a party-line vote of 219-208. Learn how your representative voted here. CWALAC scored votes against the package.

H.R. 4373, the FY 2022 State and Foreign Operations Appropriations Act, aimed to make abortion our nation’s top export overseas. The bill eliminated the Helms Amendment, a ban on international aid from funding abortion as a family planning method. The legislation also weakened application of the Kemp-Kasten Amendment, a prohibition of federal funding to organizations or programs that, as determined by the President, support or participate in a program of coercive abortion or involuntary sterilization. Furthermore, CWALAC opposed drastic increases in funding for the United Nation’s Population Fund, a known supporter of China’s forced abortion and sterilization regime, and International Family Planning, a slush fund for Planned Parenthood after recission of the Mexico City Policy. H.R. 4373 passed the House by a vote of 217-212, with four Democrats joining Republicans against. You may view the roll call here. CWALAC scored against the bill and in favor of two amendments to eliminate new pro-abortion funding, both of which failed.

Now, we turn to the Senate to preserve decades of bipartisan consensus to protect the sanctity of life and Americans’ right not to fund its destruction. We must remind members that they have been sent to Congress to represent their constituents and not the abortion lobby. Visit our Action Center here. CWALAC will continue to advocate for the most vulnerable among us and work tirelessly to prevent the passage of legislation that uses taxpayer dollars to finance the abortion industry and destroy innocent human life.

For America (Day 123)

By | LBB, News and Events, Prayer | No Comments

In our distress we cry out to You, Lord,
For You hear our prayers.
We stand at the door and knock,
Confident that You will open.

Not to excuse our unfaithfulness,
But to receive us in Your grace
Upon the confession of our sin,
Bidding us to turn from our wicked ways.

We extol You for your goodness and patience.
Our hearts burst with the songs of thanksgiving!
Give us understanding, Father, give us wisdom,
According to Your Word, generously and without reproach.

Restore in us the spiritual tastebuds that
Appreciate the sweetness of Your statutes.
All Your commandments are righteous and good.
They bring life. Peace and joy are its fruit.

May Your hand become our help and rest,
We choose to trust in You, instead of our frantic work.
Help our fellow countryman to value Your ways,
Grant us to see, collectively, that there is no other way.

That Your Law may be our delight is our plight.
For we all as sheep have gone astray;
We know we have lost our way,
And turn to You, Good Shepherd, to guide us again.

Your ways alone are just.
We pray against those who promise
The sort of justice that enslaves,
We pray their self-aggrandizing schemes fail.

We pray for those who get caught up in their ways.
Have mercy, O God, and help us to be there,
Once the deceivers find no use for them and abandons them,
Let Your body delight in that restorative work.

For we are not without hope.
None are beyond Your Love, O God.
There is power in Your Word,
There is power in the blood.

You’ve done it in our lives,
Throughout the ages You have been glorified.
Continue Your work, LORD, in our land.
Glory to God, now and forevermore!

For America (Day 122)

By | News and Events, Prayer | No Comments

Precious God, we cry to You all day long,
In the morning we praise Your name,
Giving thanks for Your works,
For Your mercies, which are new every day.

Midday we look to You to be our strength, Lord,
Our refuge, shelter, comfort and wonderful counselor.
That You may increase, and we decrease, we pray,
That we may not be wise in our own understanding, but trust in You.

At night, we meditate on Your Word and rest in You,
Praying, once again, Your glory over our lives and our country.
We are unto our enemy, disguised as he may be,
He will not have a foothold among us.

For You are present amongst Your people, Your body, Your church,
And we stand in awe of Your protection over us.
Therefore, we will not fear, though darkness may seem to increase around us,
We will move in faith, confident of Your wisdom, goodness and Sovereignty over all.

Help us to endure in the time of trouble,
Give us courage to withstand the world’s ridicule, harassment,
Even persecution, Lord; be not far from us,
Permit us to keep a proper perspective.

We pray for those in authority,
Many in very difficult settings,
Surrounded by wolves, seeking to
Kill, steal, and destroy.

Let Your Word be close to them,
Be their strength from day to day,
Hasten to help them and save them.
Answer their prayers and comfort them.

But help us to be helpful and engaged,
Increase our determination and endurance.
Increase our faith and our trust in Your plans,
Even when it is difficult to see.

Let our praise be forever on our lips,
Let our charity be forever increasing,
Help us to spread the hope and joy of Your salvation,
Throughout the four corners of the world.

In Jesus name, we pray,
Amen.

For America (Day 121) – A Memorial Day Prayer

By | LBB, News and Events, Prayer | No Comments

Father in Heaven, all glory to You,
Who sent Your Son, Jesus, to die in our stead,
All glory for that sacrifice,
Which opened the way.

It is a reminder, especially today,
That we are to do the same.
And many have indeed given themselves
For their fellow men.

This Memorial Day, Lord,
We want to remember them.
We pray for their families and friends,
Protect them—bless them in every way.

It is a hard road, full of incredible sacrifice,
To give your life to defend a nation such as ours.
To him who much is given, much is required,
And You have given us much.

So, we understand the role we play in the world,
We accept the responsibility that has brought.
We only beg Your leading, even beyond,
What we think best.

Help us to never forget these who fought and bled,
Who experience the trauma of war, and yet
Endured for freedom’s sake
For liberty, for family, for peace in the world.

Help us to not use our freedom to indulge the flesh,
Instead teach us to love each other,
To forgive and strive to see the best
In each other and in the country they served.

Help us to hold on to unity in truth.
As we celebrate this day, help us to reflect,
On the innumerable blessings You gave,
And continues to place on our people and our land.

Keep us safe,
Keep us strong in Your Word,
Trusting in You and You Alone,
In Jesus’ name Amen.

For America (Day 120)

By | LBB, News and Events, Prayer | No Comments

We are still to know that You are God,
Father of light and beauty.
We will exalt Your Name this day
And forevermore, wherever we stand.

You are our Fortress and our Shield,
Your love is from everlasting to everlasting.
Forgive our internal distress due to our lack of faith—
Born from the fact that we have taken our eyes away from You.

With the sons of Korah, we declare
That “we will not fear …  though the earth be removed,
And though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea”
For You are with us.

The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, is our Refuge;
Who can withstand His perfect will?
Therefore, we do not fret, complain or grumble;
We trust Your perfect ways.

We do not lose heart—we have hope in Christ,
Though evildoers celebrate in the city gates,
Saying they have prevailed in their warped ways,
We fight with renewed vigor each new day.

We know our labor in You is not in vain;
Your Word does not come back empty, but
Will accomplish the purposes for which You have sent it.
And You have sent us—keep us focused and grounded.

Help us see that which is good and true, honorable and praiseworthy,
Just and inspiring, commendable and excellent,
All the love You have poured out for us, Lord. Help us to see
Help us remember it daily.

Unite Your body, Father God,
Help us to fight together,
To speak with one voice
Proclaiming Your never changing Truth.

With courage and compassion,
Help us to be faithful to Your plan
In all areas of our lives.
In Jesus, Amen.
