South Dakota Approves 72-Hour Waiting Period Before Abortion

The South Dakota House and Senate have passed legislation requiring a 72-hour waiting period and counseling for women seeking an abortion. The bill is awaiting Gov. Dennis Daugaard’s signature and must survive a promised court challenge from the abortion industry. Linda Schauer, State Director for CWA of South Dakota, explains why the state opted for the longest waiting period in the nation, and how this measure will improve the care given to women with unplanned pregnancies.
