With the end of the military’s ban on homosexuals in early September, many have been waiting to see how its reversal would be incorporated by the service branches. With the recent directive from the Pentagon to military chaplains that they were allowed to conduct same-sex “marriages” either on or off base, many are saying that religious freedom is about to take a back seat for chaplains, and service members in general, with strongly held, traditional views on marriage. Chaplain (COL) Ron Crews (USA-Ret.), spokesman for the Chaplain Alliance for Religious Liberty, discusses this turn of events and the uncomfortable position in which many chaplains now find themselves.
