Physician-Assisted Suicide in Illinois: A Call to Prayer and Continued Action

“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy;
I have come that they may have life, and have it abundantly.”
– John 10:10

We need your prayers and your continued action.

Governor J.B. Pritzker has now signed legislation legalizing physician-assisted suicide in Illinois. This deeply troubling development threatens the sanctity of life and places vulnerable Illinois residents—especially the elderly, disabled, chronically ill, and those struggling with mental health issues—at grave risk.

Despite strong opposition from people of faith, medical professionals, disability advocates, and pro-life citizens, Illinois has joined other states in allowing medical professionals to prescribe life-ending drugs to individuals deemed eligible to die. Experience from other states shows that once physician-assisted suicide is legalized, safeguards erode, eligibility expands, and pressure is placed on those who already feel like a burden.

The answer to suffering is compassionate care, mental-health support, pain management, and human presence—not death.

What Happens Now

Although this bill has been signed into law, our work is not over. Laws can be challenged, amended, repealed, and restrained—and hearts can still be changed. We must remain vigilant to protect the most vulnerable and to resist the cultural shift that treats death as a solution.

Take Action Today

  1. Contact your Illinois state legislators and urge them to:
  • Support repeal efforts
  • Oppose any expansion of this law
  • Strengthen protections for vulnerable patients
  • Increase access to palliative care and mental-health resources

Suggested message:
“As someone following this issue through updates from Concerned Women for America of Illinois, I urge you to oppose physician-assisted suicide and to work toward repealing or restricting this dangerous law. Illinois should protect vulnerable lives and invest in compassionate care, not policies that hasten death.”

  1. Stay engaged and informed

This issue will continue to evolve through rule-making, court challenges, and future legislation. Your voice will be critical at every step. We will keep you informed as the next steps emerge.
