New Mexico’s Abortion Crisis: Stand for Life Through Prayer and Action

“Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves,
for the rights of all who are destitute.”
— Proverbs 31:8

New Mexico continues to move further toward abortion expansion, but there are also encouraging signs that prayer, outreach, and faithful pro-life advocacy are making a difference.

New Mexico now has 31 abortion providers statewide with Planned Parenthood reopening in Santa Fe and opening another location in Albuquerque. At the same time, hospitals are closing labor and delivery units, maternal healthcare continues to decline in many communities, and women from neighboring states are increasingly traveling to New Mexico because of our extreme abortion laws.

One of the greatest concerns facing our state is the proposed Las Cruces abortion facility. This taxpayer-funded project is intended to perform late-term abortions and to train future abortion providers through the University of New Mexico’s Ryan Residency Program. Reports indicate that similar models could eventually expand to other parts of New Mexico and beyond.

Yet there is still hope.

Recent reports indicate that abortions in New Mexico have declined significantly from previous peak levels — a reminder that prayer, peaceful outreach, sidewalk ministry, and faithful advocacy truly matter. Lives are being saved, hearts are being changed, and leaders, churches, pro-life organizations, sidewalk advocates, and faithful volunteers across our state are coming together in unprecedented unity to minister to women and families with compassion, truth, and hope.

Even construction delays can make a difference. Pro-life advocates from across the country have shown that peaceful public pressure and community engagement can slow abortion projects and create opportunities for life-affirming alternatives. Some New Mexico leaders have even said that if this project is delayed long enough, funding could be redirected toward genuine women’s healthcare in southern New Mexico.
