“Let us not become weary of doing good,
for at the proper time we will reap a harvest
if we do not give up.” -Galatians 6:9
As we proceed into the final weeks of the legislative session, significant LIFE bills are being held up in committees or are awaiting a vote from the Senate or the House. Your prayers are needed to make a difference. The legislators are working excessive hours to move bills and pass legislation before the end of the session. Therefore, they need prayers for energy, patience, and guidance from the Lord to pass legislation that will save the lives of babies and mothers.
If these bills don’t come out of the respective committees this week, they will most likely die in the committee.
Here are the bills on which CWA of Texas is focused:
SB 31, Life of the Mother Act: This bill gives clear guidance to medical professionals on what current pro-life laws allow relating to otherwise prohibited abortions. This provision does not broaden abortion access or alter the exceptions; instead, it reduces the confusion in using reasonable medical judgment.
ACTION: Please contact the members of the House Committee on Calendars. Urge them to schedule this for a vote on the House calendar. Be sure to let them know that you are being updated by Concerned Women for America of Texas.
SB 33: This bill prohibits transactions and logistical support between governmental entities and an abortion assistance entity or abortion provider for the procurement of an abortion or related services.
SB 2880/HB 5510, Woman and Child Protection Act: These identical bills strengthen Texas’ pro-life laws by expanding civil enforcement mechanisms of the Texas Heartbeat Act to target trafficking, distribution, and facilitation of abortion-inducing drugs.
ACTION: Concerning SB 33, SB 2880, and HB 5510, please contact Rep. Ken King (R-District 88), Chairman of the House State Affairs Committee, and request that he have the committee vote on these bills so that they can go to the House floor for a vote this week. Based on the number of conservatives on the committee, given the opportunity to vote, all three of these bills would pass out of the committee. Call Rep. King’s office at 512-463-0736. Then contact the members of the House Committee on State Affairs and ask them to vote these bills out of committee. Be sure to let them know that you are being updated by Concerned Women for America of Texas.
PRAYER: Please pray for all these bills to be considered by the respective committees and brought to the floor for a vote. Pray that God would give our legislators the wisdom and understanding to accomplish His purposes. Pray for God to move Rep. King’s heart.
