Illinois Takes a Stand for Life at the State and Federal Level

“For you formed my inward parts;
you knitted me together in my mother’s womb.”
-Psalm 139:13

Last week, we took action at the state level, and this week, we are calling attention to the action being taken at the federal level to stand for one of Concerned Women for America’s core values: the sanctity of life.

State Level

On a beautiful, sunny afternoon last Thursday, thousands gathered in Illinois’ state capital for a Pro-life Rally and March. Concerned Women for America (CWA) of Illinois was pleased to be among the diverse crowd of all ages and denominations who marched for LIFE. CWA of Illinois women traveled from around the state, some making an eight-hour round-trip drive to Springfield for the event.

Amy Siebert, a Prayer/Action Chapter Leader from Bloomington, expressed her feelings about the day, “Sometimes in our little corner of Illinois, we don’t always see or feel that we’re making a difference, but the pro-life march demonstrated our commitment to protect life. To witness so many people who came to the steps in Springfield so their voices could be heard was inspiring and encouraging.”

Reminded of her recent study of the book of Nehemiah, Prayer/Action Chapter Leader Sue Lecas of Mokena/Frankfurt, remarked, “The rebuilding of the wall seemed overwhelming to the everyday remnant. And not everyone was a professional wall builder. But Nehemiah directed everyone to take a portion of the wall and just get started. It didn’t matter what their profession was – or even if wall building wasn’t in their wheelhouse, they just got to work. And in a short time, it was done. God’s Word and seeing all of the CWA ladies come out to the march give me the boost to keep moving forward, doing what God expects us to do, together.”

“Seeing so many young people, especially the high schoolers and college students, was incredibly encouraging. It gives me hope for the future of the pro-life movement,” said Trish Borger, Legislative Liaison for CWA of Illinois.

Federal Level

Outstanding pro-life work is happening nationally, as last week our own Rep. Mary Miller (R-Illinois-District 15) introduced the Clean Water for All Life Act (H.R. 7983), which addresses the need for regulation around the abortifacient drug Mifepristone. For details about her legislation, please read CWALAC’s press release and Rep. Miller’s.
