Christians are subjected to ungodly ideologies every day. The showcase of these in our society challenges our beliefs. One of these ideologies is transgenderism, which Dictionary.com defines as “possession of a gender identity that is not congruent with the sex assigned at birth: often associated with, but not necessarily resulting in, gender dysphoria.” One example of this being pushed in society is Target’s 2023 Pride Collection. A few months ago, Target released a women’s one-piece swimsuit that came with “tuck-friendly construction” in the crotch area. What woman needs to “tuck” something in her swimsuit? Not a biological female. This action from Target promotes a trans ideology by inviting men to wear a swimsuit intended to make them look female.
When the number one beer company, Bud Light, partnered with Dylan Mulvaney, the world witnessed the result of pushing transgender ideologies. Why? Dylan is a 26-year-old male who identifies as a woman. He started his transition in March of 2021 and has gained lots of popularity on social media. Because of his influence on the Internet, Bud Light partnered with him to advertise their brand. Mulvaney posted his promotion video on Instagram, complete with Bud Light beer cans embellished with a picture of him in a feminine Audrey Hepburn-inspired outfit. The business deal was not received well by the company’s demographic, who do not feel it represents their values. This caused an extreme drop in sales and stock for the company.
Now, how should Christians react to this ungodly ideology that’s presented in their daily lives? When presented with immorality, Christians ought to consult what the Bible says about the subject. Deuteronomy 22:5 says, “A woman shall not wear a man’s garment, nor shall a man put on a woman’s cloak, for whoever does these things is an abomination to the Lord your God.” We also know that God created humanity “male and female” (Genesis 1:27). With transgenderism being against God’s plan of creation, how should Christians react? The Bible makes it clear that believers are to evangelize to the world (Matthew 28:19-20).
We are called to share the Gospel with everyone, including those struggling with gender identity issues. While many people in the world will not accept the Gospel and might try to attack us for sharing it, we are called to stand firm in the truth and be bold. Galatians 6:9 says, “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” Those struggling with their gender identity are in need of true freedom that is found in Christ, just like every one of us does, as “all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). We should not be scared to stand against sin in the world but thank God for the opportunity of sharing the Good News with everyone around us.
