The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ (HHS) Office for Civil Rights (OCR) sent a letter to the Maine Department of Education, the Maine Principals’ Association, and Greely High School concluding that each is in violation of Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 (Title IX) for allowing males to compete in women’s sports. In the letter, OCR gives them the opportunity to enter into an agreement to correct the civil rights violations they are committing against women on the basis of sex.
With this move, HHS has put all schools on notice. They must comply with federal law or face the consequences.
Unlike the Biden Administration, which positioned itself against women and federal law in favor of trans-identified males but provided little guidance to states and schools, the Trump Administration has been clear every step of the way. From President Trump’s Executive Orders to clear guidance on definitions that radical groups have pretended not to understand, the Trump Administration is providing an essential ingredient to a fair and impartial application of law: predictability.
Here are some of the terms they have clarified:
- Sex is a person’s immutable biological classification as either male or female.
- Female is a person of the sex characterized by a reproductive system with the biological function of producing eggs (ova).
- Male is a person of the sex characterized by a reproductive system with the biological function of producing sperm.
- Woman is an adult human female.
- Girl is a minor human female.
- Man is an adult human male.
- Boy is a minor human male.
- Mother is a female parent.
- Father is a male parent.
These are commonsense terms that Americans have understood throughout our country’s history, but that radical groups and radical lawmakers have muddled in order to manipulate culture towards their preferred depravities.
This dangerous game has produced incredible abuses that go well beyond sports. President Trump has also taken action against the chemical and surgical mutilation of children whose bodies have been damaged for life by radical adults who tell them they will be happy if they make life-altering, irreversible changes to their bodies to conform to their made-up idea of gender roles.
Just this week, administrators in a middle school in Illinois actually forced teen girls to change in front of a trans-identified boy in the school’s locker room. The common thread in all of these instances is that women and girls are being discriminated against in direct violation of federal law. We are thankful that President Trump is taking action against it.
As many of you know, Concerned Women for America (CWA) has been leading the charge against these abuses for decades, recently filing our fifth OCR complaint. This one was against the Rochester Institute of Technology for rostering a trans-identified male on the university’s women’s track team.
We are also working in Congress, where the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act is being filibustered by Senate Democrats who refuse to stand with women and girls on this issue on which the overwhelming majority of Americans agree. Nearly 80 percent want men out of women’s sports.
CWA celebrates the Trump Administration’s fair and impartial application of the law as we continue this important fight.
