By the passing of HB2 on March 23, 2016, during a special session of the North Carolina General Assembly, the Charlotte Bathroom Ordinance was overturned and signed into law. Thanks be to God!
The Public Facilities Privacy & Security Act, HB2: “An act to provide for single sex multiple occupancy bathroom and changing facilities in schools and public agencies and to create statewide consistency in regulation of employment and public accommodations.”
With the passing of HB2 women and children’s safety and privacy is protected, as well as the religious rights of businesses, throughout the state. North Carolina is the first state in the entire country to call for a special session to overturn a sexual orientation and gender identity issue.
HB2 passed the House with a vote of 82 to 26 with 10 Democrats voting yes; and a Senate vote of 32 to 0 after the Democrats walked out prior to the vote. The Governor kept his promise and signed the bill into law.
We are thankful that the North Carolina General Assembly heard the voice of the people. We are thankful to Gov. Pat McCrory, Lt. Governor Dan Forest, Senate President Pro Tempore Phil Berger (R-District 26), House Speaker Tim Moore (R-District 111) and Rep. Dan Bishop (R-District 104) for the leadership and resolve they exhibited throughout the process. We are thankful for our partnership with the NC Values Coalition team, who stood for Judeo-Christian values, constitutional principles, and common sense.
We are thankful for YOU! It was your prayers, your voices for truth, showing up at rallies, volunteering your time, signing petitions and your tens of thousands of e-mails and phone calls to your legislators and to Gov. McCrory that made a difference.
There was no way to have policed the bathroom ordinance because its entire premise was based on feelings not facts. See CWA’s brochure: Feelings vs. Fact: The Gender Identity Issue.
