A Government Accountability Office (GAO) report shows that taxpayers have subsidized the abortion industry with over a billion dollars between 2002 and 2009. These funds, targeted to services like maternal and child health services, prenatal care and counseling, and temporary assistance for needy families, have been given to groups in the abortion business. Planned Parenthood, the Population Council, Advocates for Youth, and the Guttmacher Institute have all taken these funds. CWA President Wendy Wright says taxpayers shouldn’t be subsidizing the abortion industry and calls for support of Rep. Mike Pence’s bill Title X Abortion Provider Prohibition Act (H.R. 614).
