Encourage-A-Legislator Program

“I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.” – I Timothy 2:1-2

The Call to Prayer

I Timothy 2:1-2 instructs us to pray for our leaders. Concerned Women for America’s (CWA) Encourage-A-Legislator (EAL) program offers our members and friends the vehicle to do this in an easy and meaningful way. It ensures consistent prayer for each legislator, and it encourages and builds bridges with conservative legislators as well as those who do not normally agree with us.

Whether a legislator is a believer, non-believer, conservative, liberal, Democrat, Republican, independent, or other, they need our prayers. This next legislative session, CWA plans to deliver those prayers.

The Goal

The goal of the EAL program is to encourage Iowa’s legislators and statewide leaders including 100 state representatives and 50 state senators, our Iowa 7 Constitutional office holders, 7 State Supreme Court justices, and 6 US congressional members by praying for them regularly and mailing one of the 16 pre-printed postcards of encouragement each week throughout the legislative session.  

The EAL program is never used to lobby and, therefore, is never confrontational. It is simply a great way to lift up those in authority and encourage them in their responsibilities.

The Commitment

CWA of Iowa will provide the name and address of the assigned legislator(s) and/or leader(s) and the postcards. You commit to praying for your assigned elected officials or justices throughout the expected legislative session, and mailing an EAL postcard weekly until session concludes.   

The Iowa Legislature

The Iowa Legislature consists of 100 House members and 50 Senate members. The 2025 Iowa legislative session begins January 13th with a 16-week calendar, however, the end of session will vary with each general assembly.   

Answer the Call

Sign up today by contacting CWA of Iowa’s Encourage-A-Legislator Coordinator Cristina Smith at 563-568-6027 or by email at cristinasmith9037@gmail.com and provide her with your name, mailing address, phone number, and county.  If more than one, please specify the number of legislators or statewide leaders that you agree to encourage with the postcards and cover in prayer.  Cristina will then enlist you as an EAL partner and send you a packet of postcards and instructions for each legislator and/or statewide leader that is assigned to you sometime in mid-January.
