El Paso CWA Chapter Studies HB 562, a Bill to Protect Texas Marriage Contracts From Foreign Laws

By February 17, 2015Texas

IMG_6795 bCWA of El Paso’s monthly public policy briefing, led by El Paso Area Director Rose Cabrera, was an excellent time of learning about a concerning bill currently in the Texas legislature, HB 562, “Relating to the application of foreign laws and foreign forum selection in a proceeding involving marriage, a suit for dissolution of a marriage, or a suit affecting the parent-child relationship in this state.”

Currently foreign laws have no legal weight in the state. This bill, if passed into law, would permanently keep them from having any validity in our courts.

Pray: Please pray HB 562 gets support from other representatives and that the senate will pick up a bill on their side.

Act: Contact your representative<http://www.senate.state.tx.us/75r/Senate/Members.htm> and ask him to support HB 562. Click here<http://www.fyi.legis.state.tx.us/Home.aspx> if you don’t know who your representative is.
