As watchmen on the wall, Concerned Women for America (CWA) of Pennsylvania is committed to informing and equipping believers to engage on issues that affect our families and communities. Today, I want to bring you an important update regarding marijuana and intoxicating hemp products in Pennsylvania.
GOOD NEWS
- On August 4, Pennsylvania Attorney General Dave Sunday joined attorneys general from 34 other states in urging Congress to permanently close the hemp loophole created by the 2018 Farm Bill. This action would help keep intoxicating hemp-derived THC products out of the hands of children and protect our communities. As the letter states, “We urge Congress to maintain the November 2025 redefinition of “hemp” and reject any effort to reopen the loophole that Congress acted decisively to close.”
CAUSE FOR CONCERN
- S. Pennsylvania Sen. John Fetterman has continued to advocate for expanding access to marijuana through federal recreational legalization. As this debate continues, we encourage you to read this important article from Concerned Women for America, Marijuana Should Remain a Schedule I Drug, which examines concerns surrounding marijuana commercialization, increasing THC potency, and the impact these policies may have on families and communities.
- Although SB120, introduced by Pennsylvania Sens. Dan Laughlin (R-District 49) and Sharif Street (D-District 3) to legalize, regulate, and tax recreational marijuana for adults age 21 and older, has not advanced, the threat remains. On June 29, Sen. Sharif Street introduced a discharge resolution, signed by all 23 Senate Democrats, seeking to move SB 120 out of committee. If enacted, SB 120 would expand access to high-potency THC products while limiting local communities’ ability to determine whether marijuana dispensaries could operate in their neighborhoods.
TAKE ACTION

- Pray that our elected officials will protect Pennsylvania’s children, families, and communities by rejecting recreational marijuana commercialization and supporting efforts to close the intoxicating hemp loophole.
