Washington, DC – Congressman Mike Pence (R-IN) introduced the Title X Abortion Provider Prohibition Act today, which prohibits the government from funding the nation’s largest abortion provider, Planned Parenthood. The group last year received over $360 million in government funds. While taxpayer dollars are not technically allowed to be used for abortions, money is fungible. Tax dollars subsidize other expenses, which frees up money to cover abortions.
Penny Nance, CEO of Concerned Women for America, the nation’s largest public policy women’s group, said the following regarding the bill:
“Congressman Pence should be applauded for his work in taking the initiative to rein in outrageous and immoral use of taxpayer dollars. Families all across the country are struggling to make ends meet and put food on the table yet their taxpayer dollars are going to fund the largest abortion provider in the country. This is a reckless, irresponsible and immoral use of government money and should be stopped immediately.
“Not only is Planned Parenthood the nation’s largest abortion provider but they have been caught on unedited video multiple times covering up child rape and abuse, and putting young girls back into the arms of their abusers without a second thought. They are also currently under federal investigation for overbilling Medicaid and taking unfair advantage of government funding of contraceptives.
“Planned Parenthood is a corrupt organization that makes its money off of snuffing out innocent life. There is absolutely no reason American taxpayers should be funding this group and we urge Congress to swiftly pass Congressman Pence’s bill.”
