CWA Disappointed Supreme Court Won’t Hear Elane Photography Case
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, the Supreme Court denied cert. on Elane Photography v. Vanessa Willock, where a New Mexico photographer was fined for refusing to violate her religious beliefs and her conscience and serve a same-sex “wedding.” Penny Nance, CEO and President of Concerned Women for America, says in response:
“We are disappointed that the Supreme Court refused to hear this important First Amendment case. This Christian photographer is now forced to choose between her career and her religious beliefs. It is simply appalling that this sort of clear violation of our fundamental freedoms is allowed to stand in the land of the free.
“This is by no means the end of this important fight. Concerned Women for America and the millions of Americans who believe in religious freedom will continue to defend our right to exercise our faith in every area of our lives. We will continue to fight against the intolerance of a movement that loudly claims to be based on tolerance.
“Just as we saw recently with Mozilla CEO Brendan Eich, this case highlights the hypocrisy of the ‘equality’ movement. They are all for freedom of speech, until they disagree with your speech. They are all for equality, as long as you agree with them. If not, they believe you should be punished by the full force of law.”
