Statement from Penny Nance, CEO and President of Concerned Women for America, on the decision of Boise State to not play its scheduled match against San Jose State University on September 28:
“University athletic programs have an obligation to comply with Title IX and its requirement that female athletes are not discriminated against on the basis of sex. Unfortunately, we’re seeing too many women athletes, now in NCAA Division I volleyball, being stripped of their dignity and their equal opportunities under policies enabling males to compete as women. That is why Concerned Women for America has taken official action by filing a Title IX civil rights complaint against San Jose State University.
“We believe Boise State’s decision to forgo its match against San Jose State and take a loss is a choice to prioritize the safety of athletes, the integrity of women’s sports and uphold its obligations under Title IX. Concerned Women for America applauds and thanks Boise State Athletics and President Marlene Tromp for taking a stand in support of fairness in women’s sports.”
