Washington, D.C. – Concerned Women for America (CWA), the nation’s leading public policy women’s organization, celebrates the U.S. Supreme Court’s 6-3 landmark decision in Medina v. Planned Parenthood South Atlantic. This ruling upholds South Carolina’s sovereign authority to exclude abortion providers, such as Planned Parenthood, from receiving Medicaid funds. The Court’s decision affirms that states can administer Medicaid programs in alignment with their commitment to safeguarding life, ensuring taxpayer dollars do not support abortion or other harmful practices. And makes clear the Court should not stand as a super legislature to second-guess a state’s policy choices. This precedent supports states that believe public funds should prioritize life-affirming healthcare while respecting the deeply held values and convictions of taxpayers. Special interests should not be allowed to challenge that.
“This decision is a win for life, fiscal responsibility, and states’ rights,” said Penny Nance, CEO and President of Concerned Women for America. “The Supreme Court’s ruling affirms South Carolina’s right to direct Medicaid funds toward life-affirming care, ensuring taxpayer dollars don’t support groups like Planned Parenthood that promote abortion and harmful gender-transition practices. We remain steadfast in our commitment to uphold faith, protect human dignity, and align public policy with God’s truth.”
CWA praises South Carolina for its bold leadership in prioritizing life-affirming healthcare and urges other states to follow this example by directing Medicaid resources to providers that uphold the sanctity of life. CWA remains steadfast in advocating for policies that glorify God, strengthen families, and uphold the never-changing truth of Scripture.
