Concerned Women Celebrate as Trump Ends U.S. Abortion Promotion Overseas

Did you know that your federal U.S. tax dollars were being used to promote and provide abortions internationally for the past four years? It is horrifying!

Thankfully, President Donald Trump brought this to an end on January 24, 2025. While aboard Air Force One, bound for the slowly recovering storm-torn towns of North Carolina, President Trump signed a Memorandum which reinstated the Mexico City Policy, also known as the Protecting Life in Global Health Assistance policy. Concerned Women for America (CWA) has supported this action for many years. The White House release states the purpose is “to ensure that U.S. taxpayer dollars do not fund organizations or programs that support or participate in the management of a program of coercive abortion or involuntary sterilization.” We are thankful that President Trump continues to show an understanding of the value of human life.

This means Americans will no longer fund abortion procedures or promote their practice with our tax dollars. It is a shift in policy that reflects the strong, widespread opposition to the tax-payer funding of abortion held by the majority of Americans. Polls consistently show that 60% of Americans oppose using federal dollars to promote abortion.

The Mexico City Policy, first instituted by President Ronald Reagan in 1984, was reinstated by Presidents George W. Bush in 2001, President Donald Trump in 2017, and now, once again, by President Trump as the 47th President, reaffirming America’s commitment to keep government funding out of such a controversial and deeply offensive issue for so many Americans.

With the memorandum, non-governmental agencies that receive U.S. funds will be prohibited from using U.S. dollars to expand and promote abortions abroad. This is common sense.

But not everyone is happy. The International Planned Parenthood Federation is expressing its discontent at the loss of these federal funds. Its official statement reveals the pro-abortion powerhouse will “lose $61 million USD for programs that provide sexual and reproductive health services for millions of women and youth.” “Reproductive health services,” as you may know, is a euphemism for abortion.  But abortion is not healthcare. True care involves preserving life, not ending it.

With this action, the new Trump Administration is taking a clear stand for protecting the lives of the unborn and offering real support to mothers in need by reaffirming its commitment to both babies and families worldwide. It is worth noting that the President took this action on the very same day as the 2025 March for Life, when hundreds of thousands of pro-life Americans gathered in Washington, D.C. to reaffirm their commitment to speak for those who cannot speak for themselves.  Both Vice President Vance (in person) and President Trump (through video) spoke at the March, in solidarity with the principle that every life is precious and has intrinsic value, as created in the image of God.
