Capitol Hill Brief — Back to Basics

One of my heroes, Frederick Douglas, said:

I have one great political idea … That idea is an old one. It is widely and generally assented to; nevertheless, it is very generally trampled upon and disregarded.  The best expression of it, I have found in the Bible. It is in substance, “Righteousness exalteth a nation; sin is a reproach to any people.” This constitutes my politics. …

Friends, at a time when there is so much chaos and confusion in our country, the words of Frederic Douglas should help us realize that what we need to do is get back to the basics.  Back to Jesus’ exhortation to do unto others what we would have them do unto us.

This week marks 16 years since the September 11 terrorist attacks. As we remember those who lost their lives, let’s strengthen our resolve in the fight for freedom.
