Capitol Hill Brief — American Perseverance

Though many people are not aware of it, strong women of God were also part of America’s founding. One of my favorites was Abigail Adams. Her letters to her husband John are a national treasure. After the 1775 burning of Charlestown and the Battle of Bunker Hill, she wrote to him:

The race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong; but the God of Israel is He that giveth strength and power unto His people. Trust Him at all times, ye people, pour out your hearts before Him; God is a refuge for us.

Our Founders overcame incredible odds. One wonders how they were able to persevere through it all. Well, in Abigail, you get a glimpse.
