The Biden Administration’s ReproductiveRights.gov functions as a taxpayer-funded directory for abortion providers to minors and vulnerable women. Whatever your view of abortion, federal tax dollars should not be used to pay for or promote abortion.
Even President Biden supported such restrictions in the past, as with the Hyde Amendment. But after the overturning of Roe v. Wade, President Biden is advancing a radical, abortion-extremist agenda that shows little regard for human life. He could have elevated the thousands of pregnancy centers and other resources dedicated to helping expecting families, especially vulnerable moms. Instead, he chose to waste hundreds of thousands of dollars in taxpayer money advertising ReproductiveRights.gov late last year and during the runoff of the Georgia elections, elevating the platform for the abortion industry.
A visit to ReproductiveRights.gov reveals that the website operates as little more than a “how to” on coverage for abortion. In particular, ReproductiveRights.gov links to AbortionFinder.org, a third-party website that provides women, including girls under 15 years old, with information about local abortion providers and how to obtain an abortion. The website congratulates itself as being “the most comprehensive directory of trusted (and verified) abortion service providers and assistance resources in the United States.” It advises minors on where to go to obtain abortions without their parent’s knowledge.
Abortion Finder is a result of a partnership with the groups National Abortion Federation (NAF), Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA), Advancing New Standards in Reproductive Health (ANSIRH), independent providers, and providers affiliated with PPFA, NAF, and the Abortion Care Network (ACN). The private-sector organizations that have amplified Abortion Finder’s website to varying degrees of applause are Marie Claire, Forbes, Seventeen, WELL+GOOD, Cosmopolitan, Rolling Stone, Refinery29, Bustle, WebMD, and Ms. Magazine.
Women with unexpected pregnancies should be loved and supported. Tax payer dollars should be used to support them in every way, instead of promoting a “choice” so many women come to regret. Fortunately, there are elected officials who use the power of the government to promote life and flourishing for expecting families. South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem (Republican) launched Life.SD.gov to “help[] mothers and their babies before birth and after.” It is a beautifully designed one-stop-shop to direct expecting families to valuable resources in the state of South Dakota, like access to mental health resources, access to prenatal care, the application for Medicaid, financial assistance, adoption information, quitting drinking and smoking, and more. Taxpayer dollars would be much better spent on such an effort. CWA is working with a few congressmen and women to provide this type of life-affirming resources at the federal level. And we urge all states to follow South Dakota’s lead in giving families the resources they need to choose life.
Information is power, and what vulnerable moms see when they go online can have a significant impact on whether they choose fear or life.
