In a letter to states openly defying federal law and insisting on allowing males to compete in female sports, U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi sends a clear warning that these states are in violation of federal antidiscrimination laws. Letters were sent to California, Maine, and Minnesota.
The letter to Gov. Janet Mills of Maine starts by declaring unequivocally that, “This Department of Justice will hold accountable states and state entities that violate federal law.”
The strong stand is a welcome development that clears out the confusion promoted under the Biden Administration. The letter explains:
Requiring girls to compete against boys in sports and athletic events violates Title IX of the Educational Amendments Act of 1972. And under the Constitution, federal law-including Title IX-is ”the supreme Law of the Land.” U.S. Const. Art. VI. It therefore does not matter if Maine state law allows, or even requires, state athletic associations or other similar entities to require girls to compete against boys in sports and athletic events. Where federal and state law conflict, states and state entities must follow federal law-not because we live in a dictatorship but because the Constitution requires states to follow the supreme law of the land.
Every state should take notice. Organizations that benefit from federal civil rights laws and parameters, like the NCAA, should take notice. AG Bondi said in a statement: “We will leverage every legal option necessary to ensure state compliance with federal law and President Trump’s executive order protecting women’s sports.”
Maine, along with other radically liberal states, continues to circumvent federal law in this area. The Maine House of Representatives is so captured by transgender ideology, and so hostile to women’s rights, that it went so far as to censure Rep. Laurel Libby for exposing the injustice happening in the state where a boy was declared Maine’s Class B state champion in the women’s pole vault.
Concerned Women for America (CWA) members all over the country have been standing with Rep. Libby and all women of good faith against this encroachment on their rights.
Recently, CWA filed a civil rights complaint with the Department of Education’s Office of Civil Rights against the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) for its violations against the rights of female athletes under Title IX.
Let us continue to pray for AG Bondi and the Trump Administration as they seek to protect young women from discrimination based on sex.
