APRIL 11, 2013 ACTION ALERT
LIBERTY
Dear CWA of Washington Member,
Thomas Jefferson, 1781, Query XVIII of his Notes on the State of Virginia
Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness versus abortion, federal mandates to override our views on life, marriage and the family. How did our country stray so far from its Bible-inspired founding principles? Just like you eat an elephant: one politically correct bite at a time. Remember President Reagan’s prophetic words, “If we ever forget that we are One Nation Under God, we will be a Nation gone under.” Pray, educate yourself and others and act according to your principles in both your private and public life. That takes increasing courage, doesn’t it? If Bible-believing citizens do not stand in the gap to build the wall, who will? Join or form a local Prayer/Action Chapter (we have chapters in Bremerton, Des Moines, Edmonds, Redmond, Snoqualmie, Spokane, Tacoma, Vancouver and Woodinville) or form a Home Team to join the growing number of concerned citizens who will pray, educate themselves and activate their faith to influence the culture surrounding them. Contact the state office at 425-869-1923 or director@washington.cwfa.org and find out how easy it is to get started.
If you are amongst the prayer warriors participating in CWA’s Encourage-A-Legislator Campaign, thank you! I want to encourage you to persevere with your prayers and weekly postcard encouragement for your assigned state legislator. The 2013 session ends on Sunday, April 28. If you are not currently praying for a legislator, please consider joining our EAL Campaign for next year so that we can pray and watch together for God to work His ways and wonders in Washington State.
DAY OF SILENCE: On Friday April 19, 2013, the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network (GLSEN) is once again using the public schools to promote homosexuality and gender confusion as moral and normal through the Day of Silence. Please, call your children’s middle/junior and high schools to ask if they allow teachers and/or students to refuse to speak in class, thus impeding the educational process. If that is the case, pray about keeping your children home that day. It’s time for people of Biblical faith to stand against immoral political correctness. There’s no easier way to resist than to keep your children out of school on the Day of Silence, thus making a statement as well as removing the public funding of such choices. Every student absence costs school districts money. Schools are for teaching and learning, not for indoctrination. REFUSE TO BE SILENCED!
REGIONAL MEETINGS: CWA of Washington is planning meetings this summer in Wenatchee, Everett, Vancouver and Spokane. If you know of a location in one of those areas (or would like us to visit your area) where we could meet for a couple hours, contact the state office (425-869-1923; director@washington.cwfa.org). We will invite a state speaker to each meeting to educate us on one of CWA’s core issues. Please spread the word and watch for a postcard with information on your regional meeting!
- April 17, 2013 – Last day to consider opposite house bills (5:00 p.m.) (Except initiatives and alternatives to initiatives, budgets and matters necessary to implement budgets, differences between the houses, and matters incident to the interim and closing of the session).
April 28, 2013 – Last day allowed for regular session under state constitution.
So many good bills failed to proceed this year, but on the other hand, several bad bills were stopped. The latter includes HB 1044 re: abortion insurance coverage and HB 1934 re: third-party visitation rights. Both of these bills were a threat to family and freedom. CWA of Washington was in the hearing room on April 1 while the Senate Committee on Health Care listened to testimony from supporters and opponents. CWA stood alongside the majority of citizens present in opposition to HB 1044 which opponents called the “Abortion Insurance Mandate” or AIM and supporters called the “Reproductive Parity Act” as if maternity care and abortion are equal. You can see how far apart we were, with supporters focusing on others being forced to pay for their choice to abort a preborn child while we were concerned with not only life, but freedom of religion and conscience, insisting that a mandate is never a choice.
I congratulate and thank the organizers of the opposition to HB 1044. It was wonderful to see thoughtful and active women wearing fushcia lining the hallways and filling up the hearing rooms to oppose forcing us all to participate in the abortion industry! I spoke with several CWA members in the hallway before the hearing. I want to thank all who showed up and helped us outnumber the other side!
PRAYER NEEDED! James 5:16 “The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.”
For state legislators: Galatians 6:9, “And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.”
For God’s people: 1 Corinthians 6:13-14, “Watch, stand fast in the faith, be brave, be strong. Let all that you do be done with love.”
We are grateful for your continued prayers, support and involvement!
In His Service,
Maureen Richardson
