Election Takeaways: Defeat, Hope, and the Work Ahead

In the run-up to Election Day 2026, Concerned Women for America (CWA) stewarded our God-given time, resources, talents, and responsibilities to encourage Christians to get out the vote for Biblical values, conservative principles, and truth. CWA’s sixth She Prays, She Votes Bus Tour encouraged millions of Christians to be salt and light at the ballot box.

Even so, Election Day brought larger losses for conservatives than polls and politicos anticipated. Republicans lost roughly 60 seats in the United States House of Representatives and 10 in the United States Senate. Democrats will control both chambers for at least two years. While many are surprised by this outcome, the Lord is not—He is seated on His throne, and His Kingdom is not shaken.

With a political loss in hand, CWA remains confident that our prime duty is submission to God. Humility must be our anthem as we echo Job 1:21, “The LORD gave, and the LORD has taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD.”

With trust in God’s sovereignty, CWA’s work continues. On Capitol Hill, Concerned Women for America Legislative Action Committee (CWALAC) is equipped to oppose radical pro-abortion bills like the Abortion on Demand Act, defend the Hyde Amendment, and fight for the unique dignity of women against sex-rejecting legislation like the (In)Equality Act.

Practically, House and Senate radicals will not be able to pass those extreme bills—any legislation that passes both chambers must be signed into law by the President. CWALAC is confident that if a radically anti-life, anti-woman, or anti-family bill lands on President Trump’s desk, he will veto it. For that, we are thankful.

CWALAC will also continue working alongside federal agencies during the remaining two years of the Trump Administration. Our work bolstering parental rights and children’s innocence against the media’s not-so-secret push to promote LGBTQ+ content in children’s programming will continue, and the Food and Drug Administration, along with the Department of Health and Human Services, can and should remove the abortion drug from the market. The Department of Education will continue to stand for women’s sports and spaces, and the Department of Justice should bring justice to pro-life states that have been inundated by mail-order abortion.

Lord willing, we will stop many bad policies here in Washington, D.C. But our duty doesn’t end there—we must fight the bad ideas behind those bad policies. Now is the time for CWA Prayer/Action chapters and YWA collegiate chapters to put on the full armor of God and remain sober-minded and watchful.

Most importantly, CWA must pray fervently. Please join CWALAC in the following prayers:

  1. Pray that those who hate Biblical values would be radically transformed by the saving grace of the Gospel. We are commanded to pray for our enemies. There’s no sinner Jesus can’t forgive, and no hard heart the Holy Spirit cannot soften.
  2. Pray for the unborn. While we are praising God that Idahoans defeated their radical pro-abortion ballot measure, up to birth abortion ballot measures won in Nevada and Virginia. Also, in Missouri, a ballot measure to repeal the state’s 2024 pro-abortion ballot measure failed. Pray that the Lord miraculously protects the unborn in Nevada, Virginia, and Missouri from painful late-term abortions and that mothers choose life.
  3. Pray for endurance. For at least two years of the Trump Administration, CWALAC will be working to stifle evil on Capitol Hill, and we need sovereign wisdom, discernment, strength, and humility to do it. Scripture teaches us to “Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them” (Ephesians 5:11). By the power of His Spirit, we must oppose evildoers and ask God to aid us in that work.
  4. Pray for fruitful, continued partnership with congressional and administration officials.

Finally, we should grieve and pray for American hearts and minds. As the Left celebrates an unprecedented midterm win, too many are openly mocking Christ and celebrating evil. For example, many women took to social media to celebrate with posts like, “Woke is back baby, 5th trimester abortions for everyone,” and “Ladies, report to your local abortion clinic IMMEDIATELY. Whether you’re pregnant or not, we killing” Another man said, “We’re going to trans your kids so bad.”

This depravity should grieve us. Jesus blesses those who lament sin in Matthew 5:4, saying, “Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.” The word for “mourn” that Jesus uses here implies grief over sin—so let us mourn for our nation’s sins, lift them up to God, and ask Him to have mercy, heal our land, and guide our steps.

But even in grief, we know joy comes in the morning. The LORD has already won the war, and Satan knows his final defeat is coming. Sin continues on borrowed time. May the Lord grant us unshakeable hope in the fact that Jesus will return, that every knee will bow before Him, that sin and death are defeated, and that all things will be made new.
