America’s 250th birthday is more than a milestone—it is an opportunity to recommit ourselves to preserving the faith and freedoms that have made our nation a beacon of hope to the rest of the world.
I took the opportunity to recommit by attending the CWA Leadership Summit, Resolute: One Nation Under God, in Washington, D.C., September 17-19. The theme verse was “Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, the people he chose for his inheritance” (Psalm 33:12).
We joined hands with 600 women from across the country to declare, “Every human life is valued, family is sacred, and our nation’s security and positive impact on the world stage is essential.” Leaders from across the nation came together to share a vision for impacting the culture for Christ through prayer, education, and advocacy.
While in Washington, D.C., leaders from Concerned Women for America (CWA) and Young Women for America (YWA) had the honor of hearing from several distinguished members of Congress at our Legislative Briefing, and we left encouraged. Speaker of the House Mike Johnson said it best: “Concerned Women for America is having its finest moment in history.” Amid nationwide lament, Concerned Women for America is prayerfully moving forward, lifting conservative leaders across the country to the Lord.
One highlight of the Summit was the opportunity to visit Capitol Hill and advocate for legislation that supports mothers and their unborn children.
Along with two other CWA leaders and a YWA leader, I met with a staff member of Rep. Jared Golden (D-Maine) and staff from three other Democratic congressional offices. We asked the lawmakers to co-sponsor the More Opportunities for Moms to Succeed (MOMs) Act, also known as Pregnancy.gov.
The legislation would create a web portal providing comprehensive, ZIP code-specific information about public and private resources available to expectant mothers and families facing unexpected or particularly difficult pregnancies. Our meetings were very positive, and we were grateful for the opportunity to advocate for practical resources that support women and their babies.
Congresswoman Julie Fedorchak (R-North Dakota) said it well: “The pro-life cause is more than a political position. It’s a conviction rooted in the belief that we are called to defend the most innocent among us—the unborn—who cannot defend themselves. They have value, a right to life, and are made in the image of God.” It is my honor to uphold those beliefs.

While in D.C., I also had the opportunity to meet with our senator, Susan Collins, in her office. I shared why I was in town and discussed the “MOMs Act” with her which she knew well. I appreciate that, despite her busy schedule, Sen. Collins makes time to meet with and listen to her constituents.
In addition to speaking with members of Congress, I also participated in training to strengthen various aspects of our state organization, including our Prayer/Action Chapters. CWA’s nondenominational Prayer/Action Chapter meetings serve as an arm of the Church, encouraging informed prayer and action for our nation and its leaders. We do this by educating Christians on issues that affect our Biblically based standards. If we join in prayer and action with other believers, our nation will change for the better. More importantly, we will obey the instructions in God’s Word. Ephesians 6:18 says, “Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for the saints.”
