WASHINGTON, DC – Concerned Women for America is calling on all sports governing bodies in the U.S. and internationally to institute mandatory sex screenings of athletes for national and world events heading up to the 2028 Olympic Games to ensure fairness for biological female athletes. CWA commends the Women’s Tennis Association for introducing this requirement.
The International Olympic Committee formalized gene-testing as part of its eligibility policy for competing in the Olympic Games in March 2026. Some international sports governing bodies, including track and field, skiing, and boxing, have instituted this requirement for international competition.
“Every sport governing body recognized by the United States, including the NCAA, and internationally needs to institute mandatory gene-testing as a requirement for athletes intending to compete on teams. Trans-identifying males have no place in women’s sports. It is inherently unfair for women to be forced to compete against men for spots on the team and during their events,” said Penny Nance, CEO and President, Concerned Women for America.
“The Women’s Tennis Association is instituting the sex screening test, which is a one-time verification that takes the question of men competing as women using altered birth certificates or identification documents off the table. The WTA rightly classifies this as a women’s eligibility policy. We appreciate tennis champion Martina Navratilova for tirelessly defending female athletes and maintaining the integrity of women’s sports.
“It’s time for all sports to ensure fair competition, which means instituting this commonsense and noninvasive policy of gene-testing,” said Nance.
