CWALAC Launches New Resources for State Engagement

In the fight over faith and families that is happening in every state, Concerned Women for America (CWA) members are fighting the good fight to promote life, bolster families’ rights, and protect children, ultimately maintaining the family unit’s rightful place as the bedrock of society. CWA Legislative Action Committee (CWALAC) recently released resources to support four of these initiatives and help maximize members’ influence for Biblical Truth nationwide.

Planted firmly in CWA’s core issue to fight sexual exploitation, CWA state leaders have advocated for stronger protections for children online. The Wild West of Web Browsers launches children into a relatively unrestricted, dangerous world of predators ready to sell their private data, information, and worst of all, innocence. Parents with even the purest intentions are left defenseless, pinned up against tech-savvy predators outwitting the newest screens and blockers daily. Thankfully, there are legislative solutions to strengthen legal protections at the source and equip parents with more helpful tools.

One remedy to prohibit porn distributors from exploiting children is to require websites with more than 1/3 pornographic material to verify the age of their users. With CWA chapters’ strong focus and expert testimony, nearly half of the states have already passed these protections, and many more are advancing similar bills.

And here is our state legislative tracker on age verification laws.

An additional legislative prescription is the App Store Accountability Act, which creates additional protections at the point of distribution (age verification in application marketplaces) and promotes parental authority over the distribution of minors’ data (parental consent in downloads, signing terms of service, etc.).

Since the 1970’s CWA leaders have been relentlessly fighting to protect life in the womb. The cure for our culture is comprehensive, requiring legal protections for the unborn, as well as medicine for a broken society that devalues life in the womb. Our leaders supplement the legal advocacy with accurate and substantive resources and education. This, too, has legislative implications.

For example, states can create a comprehensive website resource for expectant mothers. There are incredible men and women serving their local communities by meeting the needs of pregnant women—whether through material assistance like diapers and formula, or administrative and educational support such as information on Medicare or adoption plans. Most of these resources already exist. Unfortunately, though, when women walk through the doors of their local abortion business, they will never know these options exist. Some states, such as South Dakota, North Dakota, and Oklahoma, have served their women by establishing a one-stop clearinghouse for all of these resources, so their constituents can make well-informed choices. CWA leaders were pivotal in the passage of the bills that create these websites, and three more states are already following their lead.

And, finally, education. CWA is working to ensure children are taught the truth about early human development. The miracle of life in the womb has often been neglected in public curriculum, but with the incredible window into the womb offered by modern technology, students can see human development at its earliest stages unveiled before their very eyes. Tennessee, North Dakota, and Kansas have all required high-definition ultrasound videos in their public school curriculum, and CWALAC is working to offer the same resource nationwide.

These new resources are bringing state-level engagement to a new level. We invite all our leaders to keep sharing the information and trackers as we strive to promote families’ rights and Biblical values across the country.
