Urgent: Colorado State Legislative Update

By February 19, 2025Colorado

Here is a recap of recent legislative rulings of the past several weeks and how you can make your voice heard on some bills that need your attention immediately.

Postponed Indefinitely:

HB25-1068, Malpractice Gender-Affirming Care to Minors, sought to allow insurers the option to decline malpractice insurance to providers of transgender care, was postponed indefinitely by the Health and Human Services Committee by a vote along party lines. Eight Democrats voted to kill the Bill, and four Republicans voted to pass it. Colorado is out of step with the Trump Administration on this Bill. CWA of Colorado supports this bill.

HB25-1145, Trafficking a Minor for Abortion or Transgender Care, sought to impose a class 2 felony on persons trafficking a minor across state lines for those procedures, was postponed indefinitely along party lines. Seven Democrats voted to kill the bill, and four Republicans voted to pass it. This bill would have curtailed the unintended consequences of the November 2024 election passage of Proposition 79 to constitutionalize abortion in Colorado as a woman’s right. CWA of Colorado supports this bill.

Still in Play:

HB25-1073, Protections Against Child Rape, seeks to impose mandatory sentencing and eliminate probation options for anyone committing sexual assault on a child. CWA of Colorado supports this bill.

Please join me in prayer for these bills: Father, Your love for these children is evident and recorded in the Bible. These bills seek to follow Your command to bless the children. “… Do not despise one of these little ones. For I tell you that in heaven their angels always see the face of my Father who is in heaven” (Matthew 18:10). Soften the hearts of the committee members, and we ask that these bills pass. In Jesus’ Name, Amen
