Washington, D.C. – Today, Concerned Women for America Legislative Action Committee (CWALAC)  urged Congress to quickly pass the Israel Security Supplemental Appropriations Act just unveiled in the U.S. House of Representatives that would provide $17.6 billion in emergency supplemental funds to help Israel in their fight against Hamas terrorists and fund the U.S. military for support in the region. Speaker of the House Mike Johnson has pushed for passage of the appropriations bill, and it is co-sponsored by numerous members and is expected to receive a vote on February 6. 

Israel has vowed defeat its enemy and to protect its people from further attacks by Hamas terrorists after the October 7th massacre in which thousands of Israelis were murdered, raped, tortured, or kidnapped.  The aid package would reinforce Israeli defense systems by helping replenish their missile defense systems and provide advanced weapons systems and enhance production and development of artillery and critical munitions.

“Wednesday marks four months since the brutal attacks on our greatest ally in the Middle East, while 140 hostages are still in captivity including women and babies our government refuses to act to support them,” said Penny Nance, CEO and President of CWALAC, the nation’s largest public policy women’s organization. “The time is now!  The United States has a moral obligation and a strategic one to help our closest ally in the region and give them the tools they need to defeat the terrorists who brutalized and murdered their citizens.”

News reports indicate that President Joe Biden is planning to veto the bill if  the  Senate were also to pass the bill and it reaches his desk. 

“If President Biden dares to veto this bill, he will have proven once again that his feckless and feeble foreign policy has left our country less secure and our citizens less safe,” said Nance. “Helping our allies defeat the enemy in their region will keep Americans safer in our own country.”
