Capitol Hill Brief — Protect Hyde

Abortion is a deeply divisive issue in this country, but most people agree that those who object to it should not be forced to pay for someone else’s abortion.

This is the concept behind what is known as the Hyde Amendment, that’s adopted into almost every federal government spending bill annually.

First introduced by Rep. Henry Hyde in 1976, this amendment prevents federal funding from paying for abortions except in the cases of rape, incest, or to save the mother’s life.

This isn’t a radical concept; in fact, 68% of Americans surveyed agree that taxpayer dollars should not be used to fund abortion.

We must protect this crucial legislation and make it permanent.
