First Time Senate Will Vote on Pain Capable Child Protection Act

Washington, D.C. – Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell announced that tomorrow the Senate will vote on the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, S.1553. TCWALAC_MediaStatementhe United States is one of just seven countries that allow abortions past 20 weeks. The other six nations include: Canada, China, the Netherlands, North Korea, Singapore, and Vietnam.

Concerned Women for America Legislative Action Committee CEO and President Penny Nance had this to say:

“The Pain-Capable Unborn Children Protection Act not only protects babies who are five months in the womb and can feel excruciating pain, but it also protects women who are at an increasingly greater risk of experiencing the harmful effects of late-term abortion.

“It has been proven babies in the womb develop their nervous system early in the pregnancy and, as a result, feel pain. Through sonograms, we see the baby recoil as it is prodded by sharp objects. You can imagine how unbearably painful it would be to have your body cut, torn, pulled, or burned. Knowingly inflicting such a pain on a child is sick, disturbing, and heartless. As a mother, my heart agonizes at the thought of babies being treated so barbarically.

“It does not matter on which side of the political spectrum you fall, whether you are pro-abortion or pro-life, such inhumane practices such as abortion after 20 weeks, should be stopped immediately. America is better than this.

“CWALAC had our grassroots on the hill earlier this month to urge their Senators to support this bill. We were thankful to receive positive feedback from some of the Democratic members.

“We will continue to fight for the rights and humanity of all, including the most vulnerable – the unborn.”
