Nance: “Obama’s actions against religious freedom speak louder than his words.”
Washington, D.C. — The Obama Administration filed an appeal last week on the recently issued injunction to quash the Newland family’s temporary reprieve. Concerned Women for America (CWA) CEO and President Penny Nance is disappointed that Obama’s actions against religious freedom speak louder than his words.
In July, a District Court in Colorado issued an injunction protecting the Newland family and their family run business, Hercules Industries, from being forced to violate their deeply held religious beliefs by complying with the Health and Human Services (HHS) contraceptive mandate. HHS previously has released a mandate which would force companies to provide insurance coverage for contraceptives, abortion-inducing drugs, and sterilization or otherwise be penalized with hefty fines.
CWA’s CEO and President Penny Nance responds:
“CWA will stand with the Newland family to protect their business and their conscience from the continued assault on religious freedom by this administration. By forcing this company’s owners and their employers to violate their faith, President Obama is showing Americans that he intends to protect women’s unfettered access to abortion over religious freedom.
“Every American should be able to live according to their religious beliefs. Americans shouldn’t be forced to shed their faith simply because they own a business.
“CWA and its 500,000 members nationwide, fully support the Newlands’ efforts to challenge this unfair mandate. Such mandates show Americans exactly which religious beliefs the Obama Administration believes are worthy of upholding. I’ve said it before, ‘To force religious groups to deny their deeply held convictions is not called “balance”; it is called “tyranny.”‘ Our liberty cannot be lost in pursuit of this administration’s political agenda.”
