Dear Friends,
Today, Concerned Women for America joins with over 35 conservative organizations and 21 senators and representatives to stop out-of-control Washington spending.
According to the Congressional Budget Office, the national debt will overtake the size of the entire U.S. economy this year. Currently, our debt is $14.3 trillion dollars. In a recent Reuters/Ipsos poll, 71 percent of Americans say they are opposed to raising the debt ceiling.
We are asking Members of Congress to sign the “Cut, Cap and Balance” pledge. This pledge states that the Member of Congress will oppose any increase to the debt limit unless the following conditions are met:
- Cut – Substantial cuts in spending that will reduce the deficit.
- Cap – Enforceable spending caps that will put federal spending on a path to a balanced budget.
- Balance – Congressional passage of a Balanced Budget Amendment to the U.S. Constitution that includes both a spending limitation and a super-majority for raising taxes, in addition to balancing revenues and expenses.
House and Senate leaders appear ready to ignore serious spending and structural reforms needed to get our country back on track. They are poised to agree to a debt limit increase in return for relatively modest spending cuts. That’s simply not enough. Without structural changes like spending caps and a Balanced Budget Amendment, Washington will continue to spend money we don’t have for things we don’t need and send the bill to our children and grandchildren.
We need your help now. Please call your representative and senators today at 202-224-3121 and urge them to sign onto the “Cut, Cap and Balance” pledge.
Blessings,
Penny Nance
Chief Executive Officer
