Dear Friends,
|
We have just learned that Senator Harry Reid (D-Nevada) has indicated that he will move to reconsider the cloture vote to proceed to the Defense Authorization Bill this evening.
Included in this Defense Authorization Bill are provisions to repeal the 1993 law prohibiting homosexuals from serving in our military and to allow abortions on U.S. military facilities here and abroad.
Under the strong leadership of Senator John McCain (R-Arizona), who has been at the forefront of this battle, the Senate failed to get 60 votes on this bill on September 21, 2010. Last week, 42 Republican Senators signed a letter stating that they will not vote to proceed with any bill until the spending and tax cut bills have been addressed.
Like he did last year with “hate crimes,” Sen. Reid wants to placate his political allies instead of focusing on the critical needs of the men and women serving our country. The majority of the floor debate is likely to focus on social issues and not defense. A typical defense bill usually has hundreds of amendments and bipartisan support.
Your Republican senators need to hear from you immediately. Please call them today at (202) 224-3121 and ask them to vote “No” on the motion to proceed to the Defense Authorization Bill.
That vote is expected sometime this evening. Please call now!
Blessings,
Penny Nance
Chief Executive Officer
