Over the past three years, while the nation’s attention has been directed on ObamaCare and the federal power grab of our healthcare system, Secretary of Education Arne Duncan has been quietly working to seize control of the American education system. As a part of President Obama’s stimulus package, Race to the Top grant money was earmarked for education initiatives in the states. Tied to this money is the Common Core State Standards Initiative.
Because Georgia applied for and is the recipient of Race to the Top grant money, and because Georgia received a waiver for No Child Left Behind, school districts across the state must now begin implementing the Common Core standards for math and language arts. If you’ve never heard of Common Core (relabeled the “Common Core Georgia Performance Standards” in Georgia), it’s a nationwide initiative designed to herd states into national K-12 standards and national tests which ultimately will lead to a national curriculum and silence curriculum input from local parents, taxpayers, and educators.
CWA of Georgia believes it is time to inform and educate on the federal power grab of our schools. It is time to educate ourselves on the threat Common Core places on the American education system and the harm it imposes on our children’s future.
CWA of Georgia is helping lead the fight to stop the Common Core in Georgia. In partnership with the American Principles Project and several key education experts, CWA of Georgia is working to educate parents, school board members, hard-working taxpayers, and our state legislators on the threats imposed by the Common Core.
We need your help! With the re-election of President Obama, the only offense we have to this federal power grab is to resist the implementation of the Common Core at the state level. A clear message must be sent to our elected state officials that we will not cede to the federal government Georgia’s constitutional authority over education, and parents’ authority to control and influence what their children are taught in school.
Here are three ways to help us resist the federal power grab of the American education system:
#1-Educate yourself on the Common Core
- Visit our recently launched web site www.stopcommoncore.com. The site contains up-to-date information on the Common Core and also provides the opportunity for commenting and sharing of information.
View our just released DVD video Stop The National Common Core Power Grab: Reclaim Local Control of Education. The video is available on the StopCommonCore YouTube channel, or you can order DVDs for $10 each. Click here to order a copy of the DVD. Download the Georgia Quick Fact Sheet. Print and distribute to everyone you know!
#2 Take action!
- Visit the Citizens Take Action page on the Common Core web site. We list the specific ways Georgia citizens can get involved in helping stop the Common Core.
Sign the Stop Common Core petition. Like us on Facebook and be sure to share the page with your friend.
#3 Pray!
- Pray that parents and concerned citizens will be bold in the opposition to the Common Core.
Pray that Gov. Nathan Deal, State School Superintendent Dr. John Barge, and state legislators will support legislation that will withdraw Georgia from Common Core and the PARCC testing consortium.
