CWA Responds to President Obama’s Push to Tax Middle Class Families and Job Creators

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Concerned Women for America President and CEO Penny Nance has released the following statement in response to the President’s push to extend Bush-era tax rates:

“In a desperate attempt to change the subject after Friday’s dismal jobs report, the president today pushed to impose a tax on families and small business owners earning more than $250,000. The president’s tax increase is a grain of sand in the ocean when it comes to solving our budget and debt crisis. We need real reforms, not political grandstanding.

“President Obama knew this was good policy when he extended the full Bush-era tax rates in the past. But now that it is election year, the president hopes that no one realizes these ‘Bush Tax Cuts’ have been the law of the land for more than a decade now. He is not opening the debate, he is only joining it. Even former President Bill Clinton disagrees with President Obama, saying he believes the president should extend all the tax cuts. For a president who is so adamant on catering to his base and fueling a class-tax warfare for election time, his economic team knows the Bush cuts in their entirety are good for Americans. The hard truth is that when you burden those in this country who create jobs, you cut off your nose to spite your face.”
