When the people speak on this issue – whether through statewide ballot or through their elected representatives – marriage wins. This issue transcends party lines and shatters racial barriers, as minorities – many of them Democrats – played a key role in this victory. The same was true in California with Proposition 8. CWA lobbied legislators and our own staffer, Mario Diaz, testified before the state legislature in defense of marriage as he is a Maryland resident. The conservative movement has a great opportunity to grow and expand with new groups of voters on this and other social issues. We should not be retreating or calling any truce when we continue to win these battles.
