SB 501 SD 1 Update: Stop the attack on Hawaii Crisis Pregnancy Centers

By February 22, 2017Hawaii

Unfortunately, on February 16, SB 501 SD1 passed out of the Senate Committee on Judiciary and Labor. It is now in the Senate Committee on Ways and Means, where there will be a public hearing TOMORROW at 9:35 a.m. in room 21.

Take Action:

  1. It is crucial that TODAY, or first thing tomorrow morning (before 9:30 a.m.), you contact the members of the Ways and Means Committee.  Ask them to oppose SB 501 SD 1. Click here for the members’ names and contact information. Feel free to leave a message after hours.  Be sure to let them know that you are a member of Concerned Women for America of Hawaii.
  2. If you have not already done so, after reading our last e-alert, please contact your Senator and ask him/her to oppose SB 501 SD 1. Be sure to let him/her know that you are a member of Concerned Women for America of Hawaii. If you don’t know who your senator is or how to contact him/her, simply click here, go to the upper right hand corner of the page and fill in your street name next to “Find Your Legislator.”
  3. Please forward this e-alert on to friends and family.

Pray that our members of the legislature will understand that these centers are helping women in difficult situations at NO cost to taxpayers and that we should help, not harm, their efforts.

Background: SB 501 SD 1 is an attack on the free speech rights of crisis pregnancy centers.  This legislation “[r]equires all limited service pregnancy centers to disclose the availability of and enrollment information for reproductive health services;  establishes privacy and disclosure requirements for individual records and information;  authorizes civil penalties and civil actions for enforcement and remedy.”

This means that these underfunded charities may have to pay hefty financial penalties if they refuse to follow these absurd and unnecessary regulations.

For more information read my op-ed recently published in the West Hawaii Today, “Crisis Pregnancy Centers Shouldn’t Promote Abortion,” on page 4.
