CONCERNED WOMEN FOR AMERICA of WASHINGTON

ACTON ALERT OCTOBER 8, 2012

CHOICES

Dear CWA of Washington Member,

Recently, there has been discussion of the source of our liberty in the media. While secular humanists demand that our rights come from government, the founders of these United States of America clearly stated in our very first document another perspective, one that has been the guiding principle for this nation for over two hundred years:

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.-That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed. The Declaration of Independence, In Congress, July 4, 1776

Could it be any clearer that our founders had a strong, sincere belief in Almighty God and built this nation upon those statements? Debate the denomination, etc., but only the God of the Holy Bible sets mankind free through faith in Him and His Son, Jesus Christ: And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you freeTherefore, if the Son sets you free, you shall be free indeed. John 8: 32, 36.

“The condition of the society is the report card of the church.” —Jackson Senyonga, Uganda Revival. If Mr. Senyonga had it right, we need to be very thoughtful as we choose our governing authorities. Elections are an opportunity to put guiding principles into action. We must choose our leaders prayerfully, concerned about their understanding of our founding principles and the values they will impose upon us through legislation at the federal and state levels. It is our responsibility and privilege to choose our leaders and Christians have an obligation to fulfill that role:

“If the people fail to vote, a government will be developed which is not their government The whole system of American Government rests on the ballot box. Unless citizens perform their duties there, such a system of government is doomed to failure.” -Calvin Coolidge

“Resistance to tyranny becomes the Christian and social duty of each individual. … Continue steadfast and, with a proper sense of your dependence on God, nobly defend those rights which heaven gave, and no man ought to take from us.” — John Hancock, 1st Signer of Declaration of Independence

As you know, in addition to candidates, the definition of marriage is on several state ballots. In Washington, we have the opportunity to defend God’s creation of marriage between one man and one woman through Referendum 74. R-74 asks for your opinion of SB 6239 which the state legislature passed to redefine marriage to include homosexual couples (so-called “marriage equality”). Do you approve or reject redefining marriage? Marriage is a unique covenant between man and woman to protect and strengthen their relationship and produce and protect the next generation, thus fortifying and continuing the natural human family. Nature and nature’s God created marriage and man cannot redefine it. Marriage is so sacred that Jesus compared it to His relationship with His church (Ephesians 5:25-33).

As our Declaration of Independence states, there are self-evident truths, and marriage is very clearly one of those truths, despite mankind’s evolving opinions on the issue. While we know this can be a controversial personal issue, as with all issues, there is natural truth that compels us to defend it. Please vote REJECTED on R-74 in order to reject the redefinition of marriage. We need to remind our legislators that government is ordained by God for the people, and they need to listen to and represent us. VOTE “REJECTED” ON REFERENDUM 74!!!

Please be in prayer that God’s people will carefully consider all of the choices before them this election year. Character counts, and God measures our character through our actions and the thoughts of our hearts and minds. We need to work and pray earnestly for our nation and its people that we return to genuine love of and honor to Almighty God and His Word.

There are multiple sources of information on any race or issue, so please do your own research and then vote according to the serious concerns that you have for our nation’s future.

CWA is based upon prayer, education and action. This is our time to put all three of those priorities into practice! May you be blessed as you stand in the gap for our nation and our culture.

P. S. Important Voter Registration Information: The deadline for mail-in and online voter registration has passed (October 8). However, here is helpful information:

October 19 – Start of 18-day voting period (through Election Day). Ballots are mailed out and Accessible Voting Units (AVUs) are available at voting centers.

October 29 – Deadline for in-person new Washington State voter registration

November 6 – General Election

If you are registered to vote but missed the deadline to update your address, you can still vote. Contact your County Elections Department where you are currently registered to request a ballot.
