Wyoming Judge’s “Cop-out” Ruling
Sets Women’s Rights Back Again

Six Sorority Sisters Deserve a Safe Space

Washington, D.C. – Today, Concerned Women for America (CWA), the nation’s largest public policy women’s organization, strongly condemned the ruling of Federal District Court Judge Alan Johnson to throw out a lawsuit filed by six members of Kappa Kappa Gamma (KKG) sorority at the University of Wyoming to prevent a male from having open access to their home and safe spaces. The reason given by the Judge was because the sorority’s bylaws do not define a “woman.”

The lawsuit filed by these six members made it clear they are fearful and apprehensive around Artemis Langford, a male who identifies as a woman, after Langford was pledged for membership to the KKG sorority without the consent of those living in the sorority house. It notes the lack of a safe space, and being forced to dress in front of a male violates their rights as women.

“Judge Johnson’s decision against these young women objecting to a male violating their women-only spaces is shameful and appalling,” said Penny Nance, CEO and President of Concerned Women for America. “Judge Johnson not only makes a mockery of the judicial system, he insults every single woman in America with this ridiculous ruling. He may not know what a woman is, but women have no doubt, and these young ladies who filed the suit deserve privacy and protection under the true banner of sisterhood.

“For all of history, women have existed without the ridiculous notion that we have to define ‘what a woman is’ in every bylaw in order to keep men out of our spaces. Do women simply have no rights unless defined in bylaws? We pray for these college women and will work to ensure his ruling is promptly overturned.”

CWA will continue to fight for the unique dignity and protection of females who increasingly find their rights as women compromised by gender bullies and judges who have refused to recognize biological reality and scientific fact.
