Texas Blocks Boys from Playing in College Female Sports

Women’s Group Applauds Gov. Greg Abbott’s Leadership

Washington, D.C. – Today, Concerned Women for America Legislative Action Committee and Concerned Women for America (CWA) of Texas praised Gov. Greg Abbott for signing a bill that would prohibit transgender athletes from competing in sports that are different than their biological sex and protecting female athletes from having to play biological males in college sports. The bill also allows people to sue colleges and universities that violate a prohibition on trans athletes’ sports participation.

“CWA of Texas applauds Gov. Abbott and the state legislature for their hard work and courageous action to protect female college athletes’ rights to fair play in sporting events,” said CWA of Texas State Director Jana Long. “Not only is SB15 about the protection of female collegiate athletics, but it stands in truth that men and women are different. Thank you, Texas, for fighting back against the efforts to erase women and standing with us for all we have accomplished.”

“Young Women for America (YWA) is thrilled that Texas has added protections for female college athletics,” said Morgan Schlessman, YWA National Director, the collegiate arm of CWALAC. “Thank you, Gov. Abbott and the Texas state legislature for passing this bill and making the protection and fairness of female college sports a priority. Our YWA leaders all across the state of Texas are grateful for your boldness in this battle to save women’s sports.”

Texas joins Alabama in including college athletes in their protections along with K-12. Earlier this month, Gov. Abbott signed legislation preventing harmful surgeries and experimental drugs from being administered to children who have expressed a desire to transition to the opposite sex.

“The NCAA needs to take note of Gov. Abbott’s leadership. Female athletes need to be affirmed, not have their trophies, scholarships, and dignity stolen by boys who claim to be girls,” said Penny Nance. CEO and President of Concerned Women for America Legislative Action Committee.

Concerned Women for America Legislative Action Committee has been at the very forefront of this battle for our nation’s children by urging legislators and lawmakers to protect children in the medical field and hold those healthcare professionals abusing their position accountable.
