Dear Friends,
Next Thursday, November 3, the Senate Judiciary Committee will vote on the Respect for Marriage Act, S. 598. This legislation will repeal the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) and will force states to recognize any kind of marriage sanctioned by another state including same-sex or polygamous marriages.
The Respect for Marriage Act disrespects voters in 30 states that have voted for constitutional amendments to define marriage as the union of one man and one woman. To date, only Democrats have cosponsored this destructive legislation that redefines marriage and undermines American families, including all ten Democrats of the 18-member Judiciary Committee.
While the Respect for Marriage Act will likely pass out of the Judiciary Committee along a party-line vote, we need your help to ensure this vote will not be used to gather momentum for Senator Harry Reid (D-Nevada)to bring it to the Senate floor.
