Late on Friday evening the New York Senate approved same-sex “marriage” making New York the sixth state that allows people of the same sex to marry. Although the bill included protections for religious institutions, people of faith from across the state mounted an all out offensive to stop the legislation.
Penny Nance, CEO of Concerned Women for America said, “It saddens me that the majority of elected officials in New York have chosen to cave to pressure from the well funded homosexual lobby. We applaud the efforts of CWA’s New York State Director, Michelle Mulledy and the 12,125 members of CWA in New York who called, e-mailed and visited their legislators. CWA will educate our members in the coming days on the voting records of these legislators. A recent poll by the Alliance Defense Fund found that 61 percent of Americans oppose same-sex “marriage”. In fact, whenever this question is brought before the people in a ballot measure traditional marriage wins. Other than Manhattan, the people of New York are no different, but the legislature has chosen for them. I expect the final chapter has yet to be written on this.”
Michelle Mulledy, CWA’s State Director in New York responded to the vote, “The people of the state of New York feel betrayed by last night’s vote. Even as the debate was happening, the members of the Senate were being barraged by opponents to same-sex “marriage”, and yet the senators went against their constituents. The Republican Party in New York committed suicide last night. I believe that the response of the people will be an all out offensive against those who voted for same-sex “marriage”. Some of these were Republicans who in the past have voted against same-sex “marriage”. It is believed that a number of lawsuits will be filed on both sides of the issue to challenge the supposed religious protections. These protections were a smoke screen that will not hold up when challenged. These protections do not extend to people like bakers, florists and others whose religious beliefs would be violated if forced to provide their services at a same-sex “marriage”. We feel that this is just the tip of the iceberg. The homosexual community wants more than “marriage”; they want complete acceptance by society. One of the biggest questions that face us now is what will be taught in the public schools in regards to same-sex marriage. CWA of New York would like to thank Sen. Ruben Diaz (D-32nd District) for his strong defense of marriage. He told the Republican who voted to support same-sex “marriage” that they were adhering to the principles of the Democrat Party; he told them that they had completely left the party of family values. CWA of New York will continue to defend marriage as instituted by God. The battle is far from over in New York.”
“though now for a little while, if need be, you have been grieved by various trials, that the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ, whom having not seen you love. Though now you do not see Him, yet believing, you rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory, receiving the end of your faith–the salvation of your souls.”
