As of yesterday, Tennessee’s Ban on Gender-Affirming Care for Minors is codified! Thanks be to God!

On June 18, 2025, in the case of United States v. Skrmetti, the U.S. Supreme Court upheld Tennessee’s ban on gender-affirming care for minors and concluded that the law does not violate the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.

Tennessee SB1, which took effect on July 1, 2023, is now codified. It comprehensively bans all medical treatments from being administered to or performed on minors when the purpose of the medical procedure is to (1) “enable a minor to identify with, or live as, a purported identity inconsistent with the minor’s sex” or (2) treat “purported discomfort or distress from a discordance between the minor’s sex and asserted identity.”
