Washington, D.C. – Yesterday, Concerned Women for America Legislative Action Committee (CWALAC), the advocacy arm of the nation’s largest public policy women’s organization, applauds the North Carolina General Assembly for taking action to override Gov. Roy Cooper’s vetoes of legislation that would protect children and reinforce parental rights.

“It’s refreshing to see North Carolina state legislators take action and go the extra mile to overturn a governor’s veto when the lives and future of children are at stake,” said Penny Nance, CEO and President of CWALAC. “We are grateful for their leadership.”

With the Fairness in Women’s Sports Act, North Carolina joins twenty-two other states who have enacted laws to protect female athletes from unfair competition when a trans-identifying male athlete is allowed to play in sports designated for women and girls. The Biden Administration has attempted to redefine the meaning of “sex” under Title IX as “gender identity,” not biological sex, prioritizing inclusion of trans-identifying male athletes over the rights of female athletes in middle school, high school, and college sports. The NCAA has done nothing to protect women athletes.

The Parental Bill of Rights prevents teachers or school administrators from discussing personal sexual content with students without the consent of parents. Six states have passed similar legislation confirming that parents must have information about what their children are learning.

The Gender Transition/Minors legislation will restrict minors under the age of 18 from obtaining gender-altering procedures such as cross-sex hormones, puberty blockers, and harmful gender surgeries. Eighteen states have passed similar legislation this year.

“State action is critically important to keep men out of women’s locker rooms, from stealing the trophies and scholarships of female athletes as well as preventing children from harmful mutilating surgeries and drugs,” continued Nance. “Americans are finally waking up to the harmful effects of the radical gender ideology and that we all must work together to keep our children safe.”

Concerned Women for America has prioritized the rights of minor children, parents, and female athletes educating lawmakers and joining coalitions of women’s groups.
