How did this happen?
Due to a radical 4 to 1 ruling by the Tennessee Supreme Court in 2000, Tennessee now boasts a broader right to abortion than even Roe v. Wade allows.
As a result of the pro-abortion ruling in Planned Parenthood v. Sundquist, Tennesseans can no longer enact reasonable protections for abortion-vulnerable women or unborn children. Justice William Barker wrote the only dissenting opinion in that case stating, “The effect of the Court’s holding today is to remove from the people all power, except by constitutional amendment, to enact reasonable regulations of abortion.”
Basic protections passed by the Tennessee legislature to protect the health and safety of women and girls considering abortion were struck down as violating this newly discovered “right to abortion” within the Tennessee Constitution.
Tennessee now has Abortion On Demand with:
- NO informed consent
- NO waiting period
- NO required inspection or regulation of abortion facilities
Since 2000, the goal of the pro-life community has been to restore the ability of the citizens and elected officials to decide Tennessee’s abortion policies.
After 13 years, the time is right to pass a Constitutional amendment which rejects the notion that our Tennessee state Constitution allows for abortion on demand. Amendment 1 will be on the ballot in November 2014.
Concerned Women for America Legislative Action Committee (CWALAC) of Tennessee is organizing a large state-wide event to educate the citizens of Tennessee about Amendment 1. But we need your support in order to accomplish that goal.
The scheduled conference is planned for March 2014. We are inviting you to join us on this journey. The need is great. We have an opportunity to stand for truth and life by protecting the innocent, unborn babies of Tennessee. You can participate in many ways.
- First, you are invited to pray for the entire CWALAC of Tennessee as we coordinate this effort to support Amendment 1. Starting a Prayer/Action Chapter would be a great way to support this effort.
- Second, if you would like to financially join us in this journey, please send a check to CWA of Tennessee, P.O. Box 254, White House, TN 37188. Any contribution will help us reach our goal. Please give as you are led.
- Lastly, you are welcome to contact us to participate in meeting any of the following needs: passing out flyers, sending e-mails, making phone calls, knocking on doors, volunteering at fundraising events, and finally, being involved at the conference itself. Any and all of the help you can give would be greatly appreciated.
For Life!
