Update! Looking for Volunteers: Encourage-A-Legislator Prayer Project

By March 6, 2020North Carolina

Update! EAL delayed slightly and more volunteers still needed!

Because of the many closings due to the virus, and because the North Carolina General Assembly does not anticipate convening until late April, we will delay the EAL project until late April /early May. We plan to mail the EAL postcards at the end of April to those who have signed up to volunteer. If you haven’t signed up to participate, it’s not too late to do so! We are still are in need of more volunteers. See the project details below and how to sign up to participate.

We invite you to join us in our upcoming annual Encourage-A-Legislator (EAL) Prayer Project.

According to 1 Timothy 2:1-2, we are instructed to pray for our leaders: “I urge, then first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession, and thanksgiving be made for all people for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.”

We believe prayer is critical in our nation for revival and restoration, and it is especially needed for those serving us in public office – that is why we are committed to doing the EAL Prayer Project every year. Our prayers and encouraging postcards make a difference for all who receive them. Both conservative and liberal-leaning officials are heartened when they receive our cards.

So we are delighted to offer again this year the opportunity to pray for and encourage members of our State House and Senate, Council of State, North Carolina Supreme Court and Court of Appeals, our state’s national delegation in Washington, D.C., as well as President Donald Trump, and Vice President Mike Pence.

We have received some wonderful responses from our previous e-alert request for volunteers! In fact, several people responded as they sent in their commitments that I would like to share with you:

“It is easy and prayer works!”

“May God change hearts and minds in every legislature across America to bring each representative to a life, soul-saving knowledge of Jesus Christ (then vote their faith every time a vote comes up).”

“Thank you for the opportunity to be a part of an important project for our country.” (from 94 and 85-year old sisters)

“We are willing to pray for every man or woman mentioned & sign and send postcards to them. Thank you for the opportunities to be a part of an important project for our country.” (from a daughter and her mother)

Yes, this is an important way to impact those elected officials who are serving us. Knowing that constituents are lifting them in prayer, no matter what side of the aisle they are on, is very affirming.

So, I hope that you will choose to participate! Perhaps you might consider asking those in your small group, or just inquire with friends or family. When asked, many will express interest positively.

Project details:

Our project runs May, June, and July. Volunteers will be mailed detailed instructions along with three postcards per official. Your responsibility will be to pray for your assigned legislator, write a brief encouraging note (suggestions are listed in our instructions), sign the card, and mail it. The EAL Prayer Project is never used to lobby and, therefore, is never confrontational.

Please sign up by emailing me at director@northcarolina.cwfa.org. Include your name, physical address, phone number (optional), and the number of officials you would like to encourage. We will mail your packet, complete with instructions and postcards by the end of March.

Will you commit to joining us in prayer and encouragement this Spring? You are needed! Please share with your family, friend, or church members. This is also a great project for students.

I look forward to hearing from you. If you have any questions, please contact me.

For Truth and Righteousness,
Jill Coward
