Harry Reid Demands a DISCLOSE Act Do-Over

Dear Friends,

Tomorrow, in the wake of the defeat of the muddied-up Defense Authorization Bill, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nevada) will make another desperate attempt to pass the DISCLOSE Act in the Senate.

S.3628, the Democracy is Strengthened by Casting Light on Spending in Elections (DISCLOSE) Act, is designed to undermine the Supreme Court’s decision in the Citizens United case and, thus, stifle Americans’ legitimate right to political speech. The bill increases bureaucratic regulations, which will punish small business owners and grassroots groups. It places onerous regulations on campaign activity, which will all but eliminate grassroots advocacy.

The bill hinders groups like Concerned Women for America from being able to communicate our members’ concerns about public policy. This is not a left/right concern, since it targets all speech by all organizations except unions.

Earlier this summer, senators voted on the DISCLOSE Act, and it failed by a vote of 57-41. However, supporters of this anti-speech bill are determined to scrounge up a few more votes in order to get this passed.

Friends, it is imperative that you call your Senators at (202) 224-3121 and urge them to vote against S.3628, the DISCLOSE Act, in order to preserve our right to free speech in the political arena, especially with critical mid-term elections looming.

Blessings,

Penny Nance
