As the midterm election approaches, our nation and state face important decisions that will affect our families, our communities, and the freedoms we cherish. During times like these, the Church has a unique opportunity to encourage believers to seek God’s wisdom and to approach their civic responsibilities through the lens of Scripture.
I encourage you to remind your pastor and church family of the importance of praying, staying informed, and voting according to Biblical principles. This is not about endorsing a political party or candidate. Rather, it is about helping believers faithfully apply God’s truth to every area of life.
Here are some things your church can do to faithfully participate in the election process and exercise responsible citizenship, seeking the good of our neighbors.
PRAY
Gather together regularly during the election cycle to pray for the elections and the issues on the ballot. This not only alerts members to upcoming elections but also teaches them to practice Biblical citizenship by participating in the election process.
EDUCATE
Stay up to date on moral issues of the day that have become politicized. Offer wise counsel and Biblical training on how to face the giants impacting family values. Some Biblical issues facing negative cultural influences are the sanctity of human life, traditional family, educational freedom, religious freedom, and sexual exploitation.
ACTIVATE
Encourage your pastor and church family to vote. As active participants in the political process, Americans exercise faithful citizenship by protecting God-given freedoms that allow us to worship, proclaim the Gospel, and live out our faith without government interference.
